I often get questions from fellow photographers on how do I concur low light environment. This challenge become more apparent when no lighting equipment is allowed to be used, says an event which flash lighting is forbidden. Instead of using the word concur, why not embrace it, as in embrace the darkness, embrace whatever light source that is available and play around it. As long as it is not completely pitch black, there must be something could be done.
This is the second time I work with Danielle. The first time I work with her was approximately one year ago and our chemistry was just bizarre. Both of us actually have a hard time finding the right word to describe the work we created; perhaps it’s the mood, may be is the attitude or character, but definitely not the usual “pretty” pictures, but we both love it. Some how, our work has created a lot of controversial with mix of compliments, as well as some very harsh criticism. Both of us just shook our shoulders, “meh!”, just enjoyed what we have and loving the noise being made.
In this session, the moment I walked into this basement suite, with only a tiny lamp turned on, I straight away told Danielle, “This is it, I do not want to change a thing.” I usually like my work clean and simple, but on occasion, I like the total opposite – messiness and texture. I believe this is the darkest place I have ever photographed (well, except shooting the starry night).
The second set is mainly a contrast, something clean and simple like I always do, just to balance off the dark side of us :)Â Â Â Â Â It is still the light from one, but softer feel, less moody, in a very constraint little space, but lots of character.
Play to better enjoy the post.
